This past June saw REV Group Fire brand, Ferrara, break the Guinness World Record for water flow volume in gallons per minute during the “Big Water” flow event in New Jersey. Held at Berth 25 at Port Newark, Ferrara’s Inundator Super Pumper was ready for action and exemplified the needs a pumper of this scale serves, not only for industrial locations, but throughout crowded and unpredictable municipal environments.
As part of the New Jersey Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Neptune Project, fifteen area fire departments and other agencies collaborated for the record-breaking event. Together, they were able to produce the firefighting water flow scenario that resulted in a collective water flow of 49,000-gallons per minute (GPM) from a distance of an estimated 500-feet. An assortment of pumps were utilized to achieve the water flow, including the FDNY Fire Boat “343.”
In total, the exercise was made possible by more than 100 emergency responders, thanks to the New Jersey UASI Task Force’s partnership with local industry and several county fire departments.
Brad Williamson, Industrial Sales for Ferrara, had this to say about their participation in the event. "It's an honor to participate in such an important drill alongside these emergency responders." As for their significant Guinness achievement? "We couldn’t be prouder of the performance of our equipment. It’s an added bonus that we now also hold a world record."
While the record might have been an added bonus, Chief Fred Fretz, spokesperson for the New Jersey UASI, had this to say: "Having a strong working relationship between industry and municipal fire departments is critical to effective emergency response."
A mutual aid collaboration of NJ-NY area responders, and a learning experience for tackling large-scale emergency situations, Ferrara sees the Inundator’s versatility and world-record feats helping it move into municipalities and expanding its impact.
Speaking about the value this exercise provided Ferrara and emergency crews, Williamson had this to say: "We will walk away from this event learning more about what the needs are for our first responders in a catastrophic event, and for that we will be a stronger, more innovative company."
